Countdown to the 2011 “Greatest Show On Grass”

crowd on 16Welcome to the Waste Management Phoenix Open Blog on the new WMPhoenixOpen.com.

We’re excited to have Waste Management on board as the new title sponsor for the golf tournament. Waste Management’s involvement with the tournament will not only allow the tournament host Thunderbirds to continue to raise millions of dollars for charity each year, but will also make the event the “greenest” on the PGA TOUR.  The Waste Management Phoenix Open will be a major platform for showcasing Waste Management’s Think Green® solutions. Waste Management, known for its leadership in collection, transportation, disposal and recycling, also provides waste solutions like practical and sustainable renewable energy alternatives, comprehensive sustainability evaluations and new technologies to recover the resource in waste. The tournament is a way to showcase these solutions, which help customers and communities reduce waste while reducing cost and creating positive change for the environment.

And while “the Greatest Show on Grass” is now “the Greenest Show on Grass,” fans can still expect the same exciting atmosphere for which the tournament has become legendary. Once again in 2010, the world famous 16th hole will be a fully enclosed stadium with general admission and skybox seating for up to 15,000 enthusiastic fans. After a successful debut at the 2009 FBR Open, The Tilted Kilt Beer Garden returns along the 18th hole and will provide tournament goers a great place to catch some golf action while enjoying a refreshing beverage.

New to the 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Michelob Ultra Champions Pavilion will be open to all fans and will not require a separate ticket for entry. Located between the 2nd and 9th greens, The Champions Pavilion has a sports lounge feel complete with plasma televisions, live scoring monitors, bar service and plenty of comfortable seating. The Champions Pavilion features a fantastic menu of food entrees, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all available for purchase.

That’s all for now. Check back in the coming days and weeks for more WM Phoenix Open blog posts.

I have Skybox tickets for Thursday. I am not sure how it works but is there free buffet and free drinks included?

  2. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Cody…all Skybox packages for Holes #16-#18, and the Skybox Terraces on #16, include free buffet lunch and an open bar. Thanks for your support…and, enjoy the tournament tomorrow.

  3. charlie says:

Where is the Champions Pavilion on the course?

  4. Robert says:

I had a question in regards to the age limit for purchasing tickets. Will my nephew need a ticket at the age of 4?
    Thank you

  5. Derek says:

What is thedifference between greenskeeper passes, members club passes and clubhouse passes?

  6. Brian says:

I have two ground passes for Sunday. Can I sit at the 16th hole with these passes, or do you need a special ticket for that hole. And if allowed, do I need to get there when gates open and run to get a seat (like the Masters) and sit boringly until players make their way to the 16th?

  7. CK says:

Does anyone know if we can bring cameras into the Bird’s nest for the concerts? Thanks!

  8. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Anyone under 17 years of age will be admitted free with accompanying General Admissions ticket holder.

  9. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Derek…each of these venues requires special access tickets/passes to take advantage of the amenities (food, beverage, etc.). If you go to the main web site for the tournament (wastemanagementphoenixopen.com), you can click on the two menu items in the “green” navigation bar: “Tickets” and “Corporate Opportunities.” Each of these drop-down menus present the information about what is included with each venue at the tournament. Hope this helps.

  10. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Brian…your General Admission passes for Sunday will enable you to sit anywhere in the bleacher sections of the 16th hole. There is always a lot of coming and going throughout the day, but the seats are first come-first served, so while you don’t need to be there when the gates open and hang out there all day, it’s possible the seats will fill up as the top pairings come through.

  11. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Cameras are allowed into the Birds Nest venue, but not video cameras. Enjoy the fun!

  12. Marie says:

I have Corporate Village VIP tickets; do I need separate tickets to get into the Bird’s Nest or is it included with my Corporate Village tickets?

  13. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

You’ll need to have separate tickets to get into the Birds Nest events.

  14. Aaron says:

Do the corporate village tents have tv’s in them???., e.g. to be able to watch the USA win the gold in hockey on sunday!!

  15. Brian says:

Are there special measures at the 16th hole and on grounds of tournament to help people with handicaps? As in seating sections on #16, restrooms, wheelchairs, etc.?

  16. Thomas says:

What time do tee times begin on Sunday?

  17. Millie says:

Is there special parking and transportation to the entrance and/or the hospitality tents for the handicap?

  18. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

We will make the announcement on Sunday tee times as soon as possible on Saturday. Incoming inclement weather scheduled for late Saturday into Sunday morning may dictate actual tee times. We’ll post on the web site once we have that information from tournament officials.

  19. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Yes there is. There is a special seating section on 16th hole, handicap restrooms stationed throughout the course and motorized scooters for rent on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  20. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

Aaron…there may be a TV or two in village tents, but those are individual choices of the companies occupying the village tent areas. We hope any TVs will be showing the WM Phoenix Open Sunday finale :-)

  21. WM Phoenix Open Staff says:

There are designated areas for handicap parking just opposite the main entrance to the tournament at Bell Road & Hayden. As long as you are displaying the identifying license plate or handicap hanging placard in your car, there will be traffic control officers who will direct you to the appropriate spaces for parking. We hope this will help. Motorized carts are available for rent on a first-come, first-serve basis.

January 3, 2004 – Until FBR changes the name to at least FBR Phoenix Open, I am boycotting the event.

    Bill Kreitzer

Thanks Waste Manaagement for adding the name of Phoenix Open back into this Golf event. It only took 6 years but it was worth it.
